Our Student Life team has been awarded with the Matrix Standard in recognition of its work in supporting students outside the classroom.

The Matrix accreditation, awarded by the Department for Education, is an international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and guidance to an exceptional level.

In the assessment, the department was praised for providing an excellent personalised student learning journey and developing employable and enterprising students, as well as championing and listening to the student voice.

This high-performance was attributed to ‘inspirational leadership’ and a ‘culture of empowerment’ amongst team members, which has a tangible positive impact on the student population.

The Student Life team works to ensure that all students have a great experience with us. Located at every campus, the department is accessible to students who want to get involved in exciting enrichment activities, need extra support or just want some friendly advice.

A big part of what the team does is ensuring that learners are well-supported pastorally, so they can focus as much as possible on their studies. Success in this department can be seen when it comes to retention rates for programmes such as apprenticeships, which are higher than the national average.

The department was also recognised for helping over 7,000 students overcome financial barriers to learning by issuing travel passes, meals and childcare vouchers.

Andrea Cowans, Director of Student Life, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been granted this accreditation, which is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of everyone in our department.

Gina Yates, Head of Careers, Work Experience and Progression, added “Our student-focused team is dedicated to ensuring that learners have the best college experience possible, no matter what their personal needs or circumstances.

“This assessment will inspire us as we strive to continually improve and extend our offering to reach as many of our students as possible.”
