What Our Students Say

“Because I’ve got autism and I’d sometimes have trouble understanding things – because I need stuff breaking down into detail and explaining to me in a perfect way, in a much more understanding way, I have tutors that understand me a bit more.”

“So the tutors are great for a number of reasons – they’re casual, you don’t feel like you’re being forced to do anything that’s uncomfortable, they’re not strict, they’ll have a laugh with you if you want to and they know how to get stuff done when they need to if we’re on a bit of a time crunch, but they also know how to have a bit of fun and not put pressure on you – and they’re great, they’re always there to give you information if you need it for at-home tasks and they’re always on Google Hangouts to message you if you need anything and they get back to you really quickly.”

LCC ENGINEERING MOTOR VEHICLE WCAG2.1 TRANSCRIPT

INTERVIEWEES (SPEAKING), Matt Coggins – Deputy Head of Motor Vehicle

Matt Coggins – “I’m Matthew Coggins and I’m the Deputy Head of Motor Vehicle at Leeds City College.”

Matt Coggins – “Students come with very little knowledge or some knowledge of how a motor vehicle works. Normally they enter at Level 1, we have some students entering at Level 2. Level 1 teaches a student everything that’s basic about a car, how an engine operates, cooling system, lubrication. We build on that at Level 2 with transmission and electrics thrown in and then at Level 3 it’s about diagnosing the faults so it’s a full process from beginning to know how a car operates through to knowing how to diagnose a faulty system on a vehicle.”

Matt Coggins – “We have several project cars at the college as well, we run extracurricular classes for those. The car behind me will be used in local tiger rallies. The students have prepared pretty much everything on the car, it’s allowed them to experience extra electrical units and some welding and fabrication units and hopefully it will be okay for when we start competing next year.”

Matt Coggins – “To see people who aren’t that confident coming to college and then blossom as they transfer through the year, and generate skills and demonstrate the skills that are needed to go into the industry – it’s a fantastic feeling as a tutor, just to see the abilities grow and the confidence grow in that person. Well it’s a great feeling, you know you’ve done your job well when that happens.
